After all, it's still as insecure as ever, and upgrading from XP to Windows 7 is a major pain. So if you want, or are going to be forced by your aging PC, to move to another operating system, why not give Linux a try?

No it is not Windows. It does look and feel like Windows, but this baby is Free Software, an operating system called React OS. Why does it look like Windows? Because React OS is a project of developing a Microsoft Windows compatible operating system. It is supposed to run programs and even drivers meant for Windows and it is supposed to look like Windows so that former Windows users can ease right into it without feeling that scary feeling: the difference.

KDE SC 4.4 Available on Windows

The KDE Project has announced the availability of packages for Microsoft Windows, bringing the KDE 4.4 applications to Windows. New in this release, the packages have been broken out from the main KDE modules so it should be easier for users to simply install a single package if they choose. Not everything is available for Windows yet, for instance Amarok is not available for Windows at this time, but most KDE apps should be good to go on Windows with this release.

windows user I've been a windows user for a very big part of my life, just like the most people in the western world I guess. I've converted myself to a Linux user, and these days I administer a mixed windows/Linux environment. Sometimes when I've been away from windows for a while, (I really try to avoid the windows machines,I have to do some maintenance now and then) I sit myself at the desktop I know from all these years.

When was the last time you installed Windows NT 4.0? If your answer is"never," I believe you. If you've done it countless times, do I have your sympathy? I need it. My most recent major Windows upgrade (chronicled on my This Old PC blog) was taking a Win 98se box to Windows 2000. For those who think Windows has some kind of compatibility advantage over Linux, let me recount how in Windows 98 I didn't have a prayer of getting my cheap Airlink 101 wireless card to work, USB was spotty, and the thing was painfully slow to boot and to run.

After Christian Ehrlicher announced that he would step down from packaging and bug fixing for KDE on Windows, some articles were written which suggest that KDE on Windows is on hold now that the main developer has moved on. Even though KDE on Windows is only a small project and from the loss of one developer will be felt, we are far from dead. The Windows port has not been a one-man-project and many other people are still involved. KDE on Windows will continue to be developed and packages will continue to be made.
