Linux has better Windows compatibility than Vista

02/01/2008  I

I have been using Vista for well over a year now (since Beta 1). Of course Vista is slow, its bloated (over 10x the size of XP), aero kills system performance (even though this should be done on the video card), networking is pathetically slow, etc etc. We all know Vista sucks.

Move your business from Windows to Linux

Windows Vista debuted to muffled applause, followed by lackluster sales. Up until June 30, cash-strapped businesses looking to avoid the cost of upgrading to new Vista-compatible hardware could still purchase trusty Windows XP. Now, however, Windows XP is available only as a costly"downgrade" from Windows Vista--if you buy a copy of Vista, you can install the 6-year-old XP operating system using the Vista license.

Taking the Vista leap?

This is an advertisment for Vista on the Novell website. I especially like the line"Migrating to Vista? We can help you make the leap" alongside a picture of man in suit and tie plummetting to the earth of a tall building. Equally helpful was the ominous exhortation"Prepare now, Windows Vista is coming".

Vista to Ubuntu (100%)

I had enough with eating crap with Vista. My last line of patience warned off when I happened to wait about 5 seconds when changing from one MS Doc file to another and also happened that I was running with time to finish a project report. No, I'm not running on 256 ram, it's 1 GB and this kind of a time wastage is totally unacceptable. You may ask why I put up with Vista in the first place. That's thanks to HP's decision to embrace Vista so my laptop was pre-built with Vista and no chance to downgrade because there are no drivers. Sowhere to go now ? Easy….Gutsy.

Five Ways Linux Is Better Than Vista

09/28/2007  IIIIII
Relevance: 6.58
A user or sysadmin posts about problems with a brand new Vista PC on a support forum. Within minutes, a"helpful" soul suggests a fix:"Install Linux!" Enthusiasts have always touted Linux as the best operating system, and they've become more strident and shrill since Vista's launch. Despite Microsoft's optimistic predictions and fervent proselytizing, Vista has received a chilly reception in the marketplace. The reasons are legion: its price tag, the lack of driver support, legacy applications not working on Vista, and the list goes on. Is Linux really better than Vista? Sure. Linux is free, while a flavor of Vista can be as low as $99.95 and as high as $399.95. Linux has a cute penguin for its mascot. Does Vista even have one? Even if it does, it's surely not as adorable as Tux? Let Test Center count the ways.

Cheap Laptops Bad for Vista, Good for Linux

11/27/2007  IIIIII
Relevance: 6.31
The good news for everyone is that you can get a good, solid laptop for under a grand these days. The bad news for Vista users is that many of those laptops, even though they're sold with Vista, have nothing like enough resources to run Vista decently.
