Review: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Administration Unleashed

04/30/2007  I
Relevance: 12.61
Normally, I see"Unleashed" books with titles LikeFedora Core 6 Unleashed orOpenSUSE 10.2 Unleashed, not something likeRed Hat Enterprise Linux 5Administration Unleashed. An"administration" Unleashed book? Very interesting...and written by a single (and very highly qualified) author to boot. A peek at the Intro assured me that this book was written as much for Linux administration in general as for RHEL 5 administration. Fox said her focus was to help admins who oversee from one to a thousand systems, so I started to think"big".

Review: Microsoft ISA Server 2006 Unleashed

01/08/2008  IIIII
Relevance: 12.36
Michael Noel has written other Microsoft "Unleashed" books for SAMS such as "ISA Server 2004 Unleashed", "SharePoint 2007 Unleashed" and "Exchange Server 2007 Unleashed" so I'd assume that he's well versed in Microsoft products. I'd also have to assume that he's well accepted by SAMS, since they continue to use him as an author for their "Unleashed" series relative to Microsoft products. Still, each book has to be judged on its own merits and so we'll attempt to judge "Microsoft ISA Server 2006 Unleashed" as it stands as the only non-Microsoft Press book on this topic.

Book Review: Ubuntu Unleashed

I've just finished two reviews on Ubuntu related books (The Official Ubuntu Book published by Prentice Hall, August 2006 for The Linux Tutorial site and Ubuntu Linux for Non-Geeks published by No Starch Press, August 2006 for Linux Magazine...appearing in the October 2006 edition) so I wasn't really interested in chapters titled"What is Ubuntu","Installing Ubuntu" or"The X Window System". To some degree, all Linux distro instructional texts must cover the basic information about what Linux is and how it works so I'm not trying to be cynical. However, when you've read the same material in book after book, it tends to get old after awhile. I was more interested at what made this book different. What makes Ubuntu"unleashed"?

Book review: Fedora 7 Unleashed

Relevance: 5.74
Have you ever had deja vu? I re-read books on occasion, because I like them, and every once in a while I'll re-read a book that I think I'm reading for the first time. Then I'll sit there with this twisted-up look on my face, wondering why all the words seem so familiar. Then I remember when and where I saw them last.

Puppy Linux 4.0: Has it Learned New Tricks?

05/14/2008  IIII
Relevance: 4.95
Puppy Linux 4.0 has been unleashed recently. It is a major distribution release version of this well-known mini-distro that is why I took some time to check it out. I have used Puppy Linux 3.01 before, and I have said that it was more than just a cute-named distro. So what are the improvements of this latest edition over its predecessor? Has it really learned new tricks?

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5: All about Xen

01/23/2007  III
Relevance: 4.84
Experts, users and authors agree: When Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 launches in February, it will succeed or fail on the merits of Xen. Forget the FUD, said Andy Hudson, a RHEL5 beta tester and author of Fedora Core 6 Unleashed living in the U.K. Forget the deep support discounts offered by Oracle for its Unbreakable Linux, and definitely forget about the claims coming from the Microsoft-Novell camp about interoperability. They're all moot points.
