OpenMoko Schedule Revised, For X-Mas

This past week the Phase 2"Mass Market" schedule for the OpenMoko Neo1973 was revised. OpenMoko now expects the GTA02v3 design to be finalized by September 20 while on December 10 it will begin production in"moderate volumes". On December 20 the OpenMoko Neo1973 GTA02v3 will go on sale, and with"Santa's Sleigh Package Service", the OpenMoko Neo1973 will arrive on December 25 for those celebrating Christmas.

Today marks the launch of openmoko.com the corporate site for the openmoko project. If you didn't know already the openmoko is a new cell phone designed from the ground up in an open manner. All the hardware is designed in an open manner and the software on the phone itself is gnu/linux.

Google Using OpenMoko For gPhone?

A friendly penguin has told us at Phoronix that Google is looking to team up with OpenMoko for their"gPhone". Google will not be using the FIC Neo1973 GTA01, but they will be bringing the open-source OpenMoko platform to their own hardware.

OpenMoko Neo FreeRunner Launches July 4

A year ago FIC started selling the OpenMoko Neo Base Developer Preview phone and starting on July 4 (in just two days) they will begin selling the OpenMoko Neo FreeRunner. The OpenMoko web store will begin accepting orders starting on the 4th of July while orders will begin processing on the 7th. Openmoko Announces Integrated Open Source Mobile Phone

OpenMoko jas announced the availability of a completely integrated open source mobile communications platform in partnership with FIC, a company who specialises in in motherboards, graphics cards, mobile solutions, and electronic devices. The announcement of the OpenMoko mobile communications platform coincides with the unveiling of FIC’s Neo1973 smartphone, which utilizes the full OpenMoko platform, and promised to be available in January 2007.
