Using GNOME Evolution with a huge IMAP mailbox

08/04/2008  I
Relevance: 9.02
I've been struggling with various mail clients to deal with my huge IMAP mailbox which contains about 200k messages. I did't want to split it into more than one. It's not my job but an e-mail client's job; see what GMail does! Although Opera Mail does a great job on dealing with such a big IMAP mailbox, it lacks a couple critical features which make me have a difficulty in organizing my messages. I have missed Evolution virtual folders especially. Before I give up again and stick to Opera Mail, I decided to give a try to various IMAP-to-Maildir synchronization tools: isync and OfflineIMAP.

A month on the command line, Day 15: I get POP into mutt

05/18/2007  IIII
Relevance: 8.44
With the help of My First Mutt, I figured out how to import POP mail into mutt: To browse a POP3 mailbox, just hit c to change mailboxes. Then, instead of typing the name of a local mailbox, you can enter the location of your POP3 server. This is much like typing the URL for a page in a web-browser: pop://username@mail.example.com/

Linux Pluggable Authentication Module (PAM) Overview: Rock Solid Security

09/12/2006  IIIII
Relevance: 4.92
Authentication is the process in which a program determines whether a user is actually the person who he claims to be. It is used in any kind of a system that provides different services to people depending upon their membership. When you log in to your favorite mailbox, access ATM, or use the services of Net Banking; what you are actually doing is obtaining service from the service provider after proving your credibility using your credentials (i.e. generally your user name and password).

KDE4: Revolution or Hype?

08/31/2007  IIIIIII
Relevance: 4.88
Yesterday, in a press inquiry which ended up in my mailbox (as most KDE press inquiries do), I got asked wether KDE4 will be a revolution, or if it's just a hype. While there certainly is quite a hype around KDE4, the answer is not quite so simple. Let me try to explain. The Free Desktop and KDE have come a long way during the last years. There have been various huge changes in KDE's social structure, in it's infrastructure and of course in the sourcecode itself. I've split this into three different areas where I think a shift in paradigm has taken place.

when I woke up today (after sleeping in for the first time with my new roll-top in front of my bedroom window) I was surprised& confused by a couple of"congratulations!" messages in my irc away-log. it took me a bit of time& coffee (& looking into my mailbox) to begin to realize that my Debian account had indeed been created while I was asleep. in fact I guess I still haven't completely realized my new status as Debian Developer.[So the wheels are turning once again for Debian - Steve]
