Doesn't matter. Microsoft still rules. Here's a better question: Why isn't Linux living up to its promise? Looking for a cheap PC this holiday season? Good luck trying to find one with anything but Microsoft's Windows on it.

Threats Are Cheap

Let’s set the record straight: The OOXML saga has been corrupt from start to finish. Will anyone try to challenge the strong and extensive evidence? Good luck with all that. As a matter of fact, even the man on top of the process has already admitted that it had gone awry.

Dell and Linux: just another fan dance

03/09/2007  III
Relevance: 5.07
Dell is down on its luck a bit and recently decided that it needed to look like a good citizen. So the company put out an invitation seeking ideas from the"community" on a new website called IdeaStorm which apes the model created by Digg.

The Future of Virtualization On Linux

When I first started writing about this, my goal was to do a review on Win4Lin and offer my findings to you. As luck would have it, Win4Lin and the latest version of the Ubuntu kernel had other ideas in mind. To say that it left a bad taste in my mouth would be an understatement, I think.

What if Hardware Vendors are Trapped Too?

Want some frustration? Buy a piece of hardware with “Linux support” and try to use it on anything besides x86 GNU/Linux. If you’re fortunate enough to choose a device for which there exists free drivers, you’ll have much more luck. The Getting Things Done (GTD) method of time management is one of the simplest methods I've found, but until recently I hadn't had much luck in finding any Linux-compatible applications to help me stick to using GTD. A few weeks ago I stumbled on ThinkingRock, a Java-based app for following the GTD methodology, and tried it out. I've been pleased with its simplicity and ease of use.

Relevance: 4.85
Last week's announcement of a patent infringement suit against Red Hat and Novell set in motion speculation about motives, theories, agendas, and behind-the-scenes players. If you've been feeling like you need a scorecard to keep up, then you're in luck.

Vista Gets Taste of Linux Medicine

02/14/2007  I
Relevance: 4.85
It's humorous and sad, all at the same time. Vista users are closer than ever to the woes that used to plague many Linux users. The fact is that if you need NVIDA graphics to work with your favorite game, you just may be out of luck here.

Ubuntu Fiasco: The Dos and Don'ts of Hiring a Developer

12/11/2006  IIIIIII
Relevance: 4.77
Perhaps it's just me, but I’m having a difficult time understanding Mark Shuttleworth, the Ubuntu founder, when he figured that openly trying to recruit developers from other Linux projects was a good idea. Doing so in a mailing list in the manner that he did was, to be brutally honest, in very poor taste. As luck would have it, the response has not been too exciting thus far.
