Dynamic Content - Detailed Article Listings

09/02/2008  III
Relevance: 7.71
The creation of an automated article listing on the central column of the OpenSourceToday's home page would have begun by running the called php source specified in the action attribute of the input form. The php scripts would have begun by creating the text of the article summary that contained the publication date, the linked title, the author's name and the capsule summary. The entire string described would be enclosed within a div tag pair when written into a new text file. The next task would have been creating a backup copy of the original listing, then appending its content into the new file that contained only the newest article summary. Finally this completed new listing would be copied over the original. That is the process I describe here, in detail.

CLI Magic: A little script to customize directory listings

12/11/2007  I
Relevance: 4.89
Sometimes when I run ls to get a directory listing, I am looking for a specific file, but I want to see the whole context where the file resides. While you can pipe the output of ls to grep, that doesn't show you the whole directory with the matched files highlighted in a different color. I create a small script to do just what I want.

The"official" explanation of"foo" - RFC 3092. Hope you're having a great Sunday :) Following up on a joke post we did last week regarding RFC 3093 For the Firewall Enhancement Protocol, I found a site that lists even more of them. In fact, if you visit WYAE you can find a pretty good listing of all the known joke RFC's that have been released (all the way through 2008). Who knew there were so many in-jokes out-there ;)

Next major PC company to go Linux will be HP

07/25/2007  II
Relevance: 4.61
People used to think the very idea that a major PC vendor would offer desktop Linux was beyond a joke. It was, as Vizzini from The Princess Bride would have said,"Inconceivable!" But, as events turned out, to quote Inigo Montoya from the same movie,"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." HP will soon be joining Dell in offering at least one Linux desktop line in its SKU sales listing. Here's why I believe this.
