01/29/2009 Relevance: 7.51Matthew MacDonald is something of an"in-house" author for the Missing Manual series. He's"penned" (and I use the term loosely in this day of the word processor)Access 2007: The Missing Manual,Excel 2007: The Missing Manual and, of all titles,Your Brain: The Missing Manual (and since I've reviewed all three of these books, I can tell you that he had a little expert help with the last one, especially). He's also written quite extensively for Apress and seems to be well versed on a number of topics.Search further

Make manual pages coloured I think this tip is a productivity tip because once a manual page is shown coloured, it is easier, clearer to read. 11/12/2007 Relevance: 6.96Missing Manual guru David Pogue himself wrote this sleek, informative book on Apple's latest technology for the masses, making me wonder if he's an avid iPhone user and fan rather than just writing this"manual" to satisfy the demands of the public. Actually, despite the fact that only Pogue is given cover credit as the author, I discovered in the"Missing Credits" that J.D. Biersdorfer (I thought the days of female author's needing to disguise their gender by using initials for their first and middle names were long gone) wrote the iTunes, syncing, and accessories chapters. I've said in the past that no one person writes a book and in fact, it takes a talented and dedicated team to see a book from conception to book store shelf (or Amazon.com) and this credits section supports that statement completely.Search further
06/14/2007 Relevance: 6.89Four years ago, I bought a book entitled,"Mac OSX: The Missing Manual" and noticed it had reached the #1 best sellers slot at Amazon. I remember wondering how an operating system with 3% of the PC Desktop market could sell enough books to rank #1. Then, I realized there I was buying one too. I didn't use a Mac, but my wife bought one and needed to learn this new fangled UNIX desktop. The point? The Missing Manual served a big need - big enough to warrant a #1 best seller.Search further
02/05/2008 Relevance: 6.85High-end open source blogging applications may have all the features you can think of, but you may not need all that. For simple blogs, a lightweight alternative like Chyrp is worth a closer look. Chyrp runs on the PHP/MySQL stack, has a clean interface sprinkled with AJAX, and administration features that you can learn without resorting to a manual (in fact, there is no manual to speak of).Search further
03/14/2008 Relevance: 6.68I didn't think ofWikipedia as having a manual, missing or otherwise, but it makes sense that it does. For much of the world, Wikipedia is a resource to help people access different types of information, but it's much more than that. As the back of Broughton's book puts it,"Wikipedia may be the biggest group writing project ever...". That being the case, the"group" will need to know how to work together to contribute related information in a common framework. Does this book tell you how to do this? Let's find out.Search further
02/10/2009 Relevance: 6.55I recently reviewedCreating a Web Site: The Missing Manual and thought a review of this Head First book would be in order. While you might say that both of these books cater to beginners who don't have a history of creating and maintaining web site, you can also say that each book caters to its own special audience.Search further
