Dynamic Content - Introduction II

08/28/2008  II
Relevance: 6.07
This is my second attempt to write this introduction [1.]. My intent was to outline methods that took external inputs and converted them into content that would be inserted running web pages. However, my plans went astray. It seemed the mere mention of the word security subverted my intentions. This rewrite is aimed at regaining my balance.

KDE 4.1 rocks the desktop

07/29/2008  II
Relevance: 5.77
KDE 4.1 was finally released to the public today. After all the controversy since the release of KDE 4.0, I'm happy to announce that KDE 4.1 simply rocks. The introduction of KDE 4 marked the introduction of the new Plasma desktop, which provides not only the panel that you interact with, but also widgets (or"plasmoids") that extended the desktop further. Marcel Gagne's book for Windows users entitled: Moving to Free Software is an introduction to useful Free and Open Source (FOSS) licensed software that runs on the proprietary Windows operating system. Each chapter covers a major application with an introduction of what the application does, how to use it and helpful configuration tips. Each chapter ends with a number of useful links to resources. Applications include Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenOffice, Gimp and more. Included is an Ubuntu live DVD that contains all the applications listed in the book. AMD 8.40.4 Linux Display Driver

08/14/2007  IIIIIIIIII
Relevance: 5.25
Last month marked the introduction of Fedora 7 support with the fglrx 8.39.4 ATI/AMD driver but not much more than that was to be found aside from an undocumented XML file. This driver did also present watermark problems that led to the driver being recalled and a corrected driver being pushed out. Today the fglrx 8.40.4 driver has been released and while many had speculated the 8.40 series would mark the introduction of the new Linux driver code-base, that's not the case for 8.40.4 driver. What changes does the 8.40.4 driver hold in store for Linux users? We'll tell you today but there isn't much.

Relevance: 4.88
Depending on what you plan on learning,"Programming Firefox" can provide for several different needs. XML technologies are hot, hot, hot these days and Firefox utilizes the XML User Interface Language or XUL (Pronounced"zool"...reminds me of the film"Ghostbusters","There is no Dana, only XUL", but I digress). Perhaps that's enough to get your attention, but there's more. The text on the book's back cover promises in part to provide an"introduction to the graphical elements that compose a XUL application","an introduction to Resource Description Files, and how the Firefox interface renders RDF","displaying documents using the Scalable Vector Graphics standard and..." Well, you get the idea. Let's take a closer look and see what this text actually delivers.
