Some of these improvements included Epiphany with the WebKit back-end (if built with the proper argument), Evince Document Viewing improvements, Cheese web-camera software, Mousetweaks, the Vinagre VNC client, and Totem enhancements. Small improvements make WordPress 2.1 worth the upgrade

WordPress 2.1 was released a few weeks ago with a host of new features, including the ability to save pages as drafts, improvements for file uploading, import and export features, and performance improvements. Is it time to upgrade or switch to 2.1? While the latest release doesn't really add any killer features to entice users to switch from other blogging software, the new features are worth the upgrade if you're already using WordPress.

Alien Arena 2008 Receives Graphics Improvements

While not commonly mentioned at Phoronix, Alien Arena is an open-source sci-fi first-person shooter that has been around since 2004 and uses the CRX engine, which is a derivative of the Id's GPL source-code. Version 7.20 of Alien Arena 2008 was released this week and a few features had caught our attention. In addition to a number of game-play improvements, Alien Arena has received a number of improvements to its graphics renderer with GLSL program management, parallax mapping, new lighting, new shaders, and other work.

Everywhere you turn there are"brain training" games that claim to help you"lower your brain age" or"boost your brain power" and other such marketing hyperbole. Much like saying a certain breakfast cereal is"more satisfying" than other cereals, these claims are basically meaningless. As fun as they may be to play, brain training games have one fundamental flaw: the improvements you see the more you perform the exercises are not evidence of your brain becoming better, smarter, or faster. Instead, the improvements are the same sorts of improvements that you will see in almost any task: the more you practice, the better you get at it. You haven't gotten any smarter, you've just learned how to perform the task at hand faster and more efficiently which translates into a better score.
