Web Password Form - Fending Off SQL Injection

08/18/2008  I
Relevance: 6.75
This series began with the idea of showing a form that could be used by an external user(s) as a means of adding content to a remote site. The idea of the use of a password form was there from the onset. It made sense to limit access to a select set of users. The password form enhances security, which became an issue with the data input form. Nonetheless, until very recently, I intended to skip any real discussion of password forms. I was going to cite a book's discussion. At most, I might have mentioned a few potential problems. I was certain that would have sufficed. I changed my mind when I saw the ease simple minded SQL injection breached this barrier. Therefore, more than a few words are warranted.

Writing a thesis with LaTeX

01/22/2008  IIII
Relevance: 5.63
A dissertation is composed of two elements: the content and the form. The author is certainly the person best qualified to speak about the content. We, however, will focus on the form. We are going to see how to get a fine composition with low time expenditure using LaTeX.

Relevance: 5.26
If VIA didn't already have enough things going for it this week at Computex with the OpenBook, Nano Processor Family, and Chrome 440 GTX, they have just announced the Mini-ITX 2.0 Form Factor specification. Mini-ITX 2.0 is coming seven years after VIA originally created the Mini-ITX design...

Use microformats API in Firefox 3.0

06/04/2008  IIIIII
Relevance: 5.06
The Firefox 3.0 release has support for microformats in the form of an API that you can access from a Firefox extension. Follow an example of how to use this API from within your extension code. Take a skeleton Hello World extension and give it the ability to store an hCard from a Web page and then use that stored hCard to populate a Web form.

LAMP Bottleneck Solutions: Apache and PHP

05/22/2007  II
Relevance: 4.97
Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP form the basis of the LAMP architecture for Web applications. This article focuses on steps you can take tooptimize Apache and PHP, because as the load on an application increases, the bottlenecks in the underlying infrastructure become more apparent in the form of slow response to user requests.

OpenBSD: The FAQ is available in PDF and text form

Look under /pub/OpenBSD/doc/obsd-faq.pdf and /pub/OpenBSD/doc/obsd-faq.txt on your nearest FTP mirror. The thing's 227 pages long in PDF form. The 998-page FreeBSD Handbook, compressed in its various forms (including PDF, Postscript, text and RTF), can be found under /pub/FreeBSD/doc/handbook from your local FTP mirror. It's especially nice to be told to RTMF when the manual in question is as good as these two. And these are free books.

Web Form Attack, Spammed

06/29/2008  IIIIII
Relevance: 4.83
This will be a concise report regarding, the spamming of web forms by commercially driven criminal enterprises. I am forced to make this short, because my knowledge is second hand and incomplete. I have been consulting with an associate, who has been trying to counter a deluge of spam that is being thrown both into his and into his client's email. We are not in agreement as the probable path; I think it is through the form each time whereas he suspects a single pass followed by cloning the resultant emails. However, I have no access to the email or the internals of the site. He just wants the problem solved with minimum effort. Therefore, it is possible his answers are not accurate; I simply cannot be certain.

Web Input - Securing Data, Second Level of Defense

06/04/2008  II
Relevance: 4.76
LXer Feature: 04-Jun-2008My implicit presumption in this series is that break ins are unplanned, opportunistic occurrences. Break in attempts are triggered by encountering an input form. As I mentioned previously, do not give information away needlessly. Moreover, I strongly suggest you consider becoming passively aggressive by making your presentation of the form and its expected input somewhat unpredictable. Moreover, I advise turning your data input into a simple waste of time and effort for those not trained to use the entry way.
