08/08/2007 Relevance: 6.64One of the popular features of Fedora 7 is the ability to remix Fedora and build your own custom version. Now don't get me wrong–building a new distribution is nice. But what about those who wish to create their own Fedora-based project? How do you grow a complete community in an enterprise environment or in the general public? Thanks to some of the lesser-known features, anyone can use the exact same toolsthat make Fedora, well… Fedora.Search further
10/30/2007 Relevance: 6.64The release of Fedora 8 (codenamed Werewolf) is due out for release in less than two weeks and comes with a host of new features. Fedora 8 will offer a Codec Buddy for installing audio/video codecs, an open-source Java stack now based upon IcedTea, improved laptop support, the Pulse Audio sound server, remote virtualization support, and much more. As a sneak peak at the final release of Fedora 8, taken from the Fedora 2007-10-24 Rawhide spin we have screenshots of the improvements to the Fedora Firstboot, the Fedora 8 GNOME desktop, and also the KDE version of Fedora 8. 07/28/2007 Relevance: 6.61The Fedora Project offered a peek under its kimono recently with details about Fedora 7 adoption and other statistics. Fedora 7 has snagged more than 300,000 users since its release at the end of May. While that sounds pretty good, Fedora Core 6 managed to attract more than 400,000 in roughly the same amount of time after its release. We asked Max Spevack, the Fedora project leader, whether the numbers are telling the full story.Search further
08/09/2007 Relevance: 6.61If you're a Fedora user the end of May means one thing...time for a new release! This year was no different as the Fedora project continued its aggressive six month release schedule. Fedora 7, code named 'Moonshine' , is the latest version of the Red Hat influenced Linux distribution. Fedora regulars will note the absence of the word 'Core' in the new name. This isn't the only change with this release. We'll delve into what's new in 7 as well as review Fedora from a desktop standpoint.Search further
04/27/2007 Relevance: 6.57Don't get me wrong, Fedora is an excellent distribution but it seems to be losing some of its speed. I will still likely use Fedora 7 on a number of personal machines in hopes that Fedora 8 rebounds, but I certainly have been tempted to install Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn.Search further
02/03/2007 Relevance: 6.56The Fedora team has announced that the first test spin of Fedora 7 is available for download via BitTorrent or from Fedora Project mirrors. Fedora 7, also available on live CD, mixes both Core (the complete operating system) and Extras (add-ons that complement the OS) into one package in anticipation of the merger between the two for Fedora 7's final release. Aside from the newly abbreviated name, the release also departs from Fedora Core 6 in that it no longer ships with the entire Core collection as an ISO set, because the team is planning to produce targeted spins for specific uses.Search further
