OOXML issues not solved during the BRM

03/01/2008  II
Relevance: 10.76
As it stands today, the BRM has failed -failed to work, failed to impress, failed to create consensus and failed to succeed. Rules that were not part of the existing JTC-1 corpus had to be invented to come up with the astounding result of 6 countries approving the bulk voting versus 4 countries formally disapproving them.

My Gentoo odyssey

09/20/2006  IIIIII
Relevance: 9.58
Gentoo is a Linux distribution unlike any other I have used, not just in terms of how it does things, but in the philosophy which drives its design. Gentoo doesn't ask what it can do to make things easier, it asks you exactly what it is that you want it to do, and then does precisely and only that. I gave Gentoo a good try, but I won't be sticking with it. Why not? I'm glad you asked.

Relevance: 9.44
Gentoo 2008.0 Beta 1 has been released. This is no April Fools' Day joke, it's really here. The Gentoo Foundation has had its share of problems as of late, there was never a Gentoo 2007.1 release, and this first beta is coming a bit late, but Gentoo 2008.0 Beta 1 is now available. We have some screenshots up of the Gentoo 2008.0 Beta 1 i686 LiveCD.

Gentoo cuts key parts of itself from net for its own good

08/18/2007  IIIIIIIIII
Relevance: 9.29
Admins with the Gentoo Project say they have disconnected major parts of its website a week after discovering it could be vulnerable to a command injection attack that allows bad guys to remotely execute code on the machine. At time of writing, users trying to access Gentoo Archives and at least seven other areas of Gentoo.org got a message saying they were unavailable. Gentoo pulled the server hosting the sections"to prevent further exploitation and to allow for forensic analysis," according to Gentoo's homepage.

Did Gentoo just die?

01/13/2008  IIIIIIIIII
Relevance: 9.26
While no official body has yet to confirm or spread news about it, Daniel Robbins, creator of Gentoo Linux, confirmed that the Gentoo Foundation's charter has been revoked for the next several weeks. In layman's terms, as of this moment the Gentoo Foundation no longer exists. Apparently this happened because the people who are supposed to be in charge of keeping this alive have mostly resigned or are MIA.

Sabayon, the Gentle Gentoo

09/21/2007  IIIIIIIIII
Relevance: 9.17
Gentoo, formerly known as Enoch Linux is one of the pioneers among the Linux distributions. It is well-known and loved for its speed (the Gentoo species is the fastest swimming penguin), and hated for its unfriendliness with Linux newbies. Thus, many flavours of Gentoo have been created including this highly capable one named Sabayon. Every now and then, I'm searching for a perfect Operating System worthy to replace my OpenSuse 10.1. I have chosen to try out Sabayon Linux as I have already used Gentoo before and was quiet impressed with it.
