But what would a Direct3D presentation be without some eye candy? Stefan showed off screenshots of some games. There was also a small contingent of DirectX folks in attendance with some really high-powered laptops that could show off the games. It's quite impressive to see the latest and greatest games running on Linux. Jon Parshall extensively, um,"tested" World of Warcraft throughout the conference (did you finally make it to level 48, Jon?) Tom Wickline had 3DMark2000, 3DMark2001SE and 3DMark2003 running all of there test. There is still some artifacts in the rendering of a couple of the test, but the DirectX guys knew what was to blame for it. Stefan showed off the Microsoft DirectX logo"proving" DirectX is being properly detected.

Cedega 6.0 Performance Preview

For those new to Linux or the yet to be converts, Cedega is an application that emulates Microsoft's DirectX and allows the user to play a variety of games within Linux that otherwise wouldn't be possible. While Cedega is not completely open-source and requires a monthly subscription, it is based upon WINE. WINE supports a variety of games but isn't designed solely for gaming and often lacks support for some of the newer DirectX titles. In this article we compared the gaming performance of Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista, Linux, Linux with WINE, and Linux with Cedega 6.0.

Unigine Engine Updates, Continually Improving

CrossOver Games 7.2.0 Released

It has been a number of months since CrossOver Games was last updated, but this morning CodeWeavers has issued a new update for this software based upon WINE that allows gamers to run their favorite DirectX and OpenGL Windows titles on Linux. CrossOver Games 7.2.0 has a fix when running Steam with Compiz, improvements to the City of Heroes game, formal support for SPORE, improved support for World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, and improved support for the latest version of the Steam client. Beyond that, CrossOver Games 7.2.0 isrunning on a new version of WINE and there are also a number of DirectX improvements that is supposed to improve the experience on a number of games...
