11/10/2006  IIIIIIII
Relevance: 7.67
Set up a Kerberized environment to work with Solaris(TM) 10 and learn how to configure a Key Distribution Center (KDC) on AIX(R) Version 5.3. You'll also run through a series of steps for configuring a Kerberos client on Solaris 10 to authenticate users for Telnet, remote shell (rsh), and Secure Shell (SSH) using AIX Version 5.3 as your KDC. Having a single IBM Network Authentication Service (NAS) KDC on AIX for authentication across different platforms is especially helpful in a hybrid environment.

How to secure VNC remote access with two-factor authentication

05/23/2007  IIIIIII
Relevance: 7.30
VNC is the most popular remote access solution today. However, it was developed to provide remote access, not to provide secure remote access. Administrators have to add security to VNC by tunneling it through an encrpyted channel such as SSH and adding a layer of authentication. In this article, we will show you how to combine the NoMachine NX server to encrpyt VNC and remote X session combined with two-factor authentication from WiKID Systems to create a secure, fast remote access solution.

Relevance: 6.82
Not exactly the clearest of titles... recently I had to setup and configure several subvesion servers that use webdav for authentication. Setting up the authentication and repositories for a single repository is pretty straightforward. If many repositories need to be created and maintained that are completely seperate, then a script (or set of scripts) definitely makes life easier. In the text below, just such a scenario cropped up and my first pass at working a script.

When they hear the word PAM, most people think of a certain blonde Canadian Playmate, but readers of this Web site surely will recognize the basic element of Linux security: the Pluggable Authentication Modules. How could you trust that all your applications implemented the same checks? And how could you implement extra controls?

Authentication is the process in which a program determines whether a user is actually the person who he claims to be. It is used in any kind of a system that provides different services to people depending upon their membership. When you log in to your favorite mailbox, access ATM, or use the services of Net Banking; what you are actually doing is obtaining service from the service provider after proving your credibility using your credentials (i.e. generally your user name and password).
